OpenDXM® 6.0 Provides Significant Reduction in Administrative Overhead

Darmstadt, Sep. 2006 - PROSTEP AG is bringing a new version of the engineering data workflow solution OpenDXM® onto the market. OpenDXM® Version 6.0 will significantly reduce the time and effort required to install the software and configure updates and patches. The Darmstadt-based product data integration specialists have incorporated not only customer requirements but also VDA requirements regarding support for the new ENGDAT and ENGPART guidelines into their further development of the data exchange solution, providing convenient new functions.

The focus of development for OpenDXM® Version 6.0 was placed on providing support for ENGDAT V3 and ENGPART V4. OpenDXM® Version 6.0 provides full support for the internationally adopted guidelines, with the considerably enhanced ENGPART V4 guideline now also permitting the selective export and import of master data. The OpenDXM® Admin Client provides the administrator with support when performing selective ENGPART data import and other tasks by means of a convenient user interface.

One important new feature of OpenDXM® Version 6.0 is an installation tool that incorporates a graphical user interface. The OpenDXM® installation wizard considerably reduces the time and effort involved in updating the software. All installation activities are logged. The current status of the installation, including all installed components, their versions and where they have been installed, is automatically documented and managed in an integrated inventory. This not only makes it easier to install new versions but also to restore older versions of an installation should the need arise.

The new functions offered in OpenDXM® Version 6.0 not only make it easier for system administrators to go about their work but also make things easier for the user. One significant improvement in this respect is the uniform user interface for file selection. Regardless of whether the user requires CAD-specific functionality for file selection or simply wants to select a document, the appearance of the user interface is the same. When sending more than one data set, the user is now able to assign all the data sets the selected conversion method at the push of a button, for example. The job monitoring function provides the user with information about the status of a job quickly and conveniently by means of progress bars. A new search function incorporated in the user interface allows you to select specific jobs by entering a job number, eliminating the need to search the job list.
