PTC Develops New PLM Solution For The Aerospace & Defense Industry

Lowers the Cost of Ownership for Industry-Critical Capabilities
Needham, MA - January 31, 2004 – PTC (Nasdaq: PMTC), the Product Development Company™, today announced the general availability of PTC Windchill® Aerospace & Defense Module. The Windchill Aerospace & Defense Module is a software add-on module for Windchill PDMLink™ that was developed to meet the unique needs of the global Aerospace & Defense (A&D) industry for traceability of highly complex product and program information across the program lifecycle. With the addition of Windchill Aerospace & Defense Module to Windchill PDMLink, PTC fuses years of experience and best practices development with market leading A&D companies into a single solution.

A&D companies are commonly faced with information that is disconnected and spread across many organizations, making configuration management of their products an extremely laborious, error-prone and time-intensive process. The combination of Windchill PDMLink and Windchill Aerospace & Defense Module creates a solution that allows A&D manufacturers and government program offices to efficiently manage and securely share digital product and program information internally and externally with customers and suppliers, from a single net-centric environment. To support the rapid and low-risk implementation of the Integrated Digital Environments (IDEs) frequently mandated by A&D contracts, PTC offers a fixed price, quick start service package as well as specialized training. Early adopters include BAE SYSTEMS, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, and United Defense.

With Windchill Aerospace & Defense Module, Windchill PDMLink now offers:

  • Contract deliverables management (CDRLs and SDRLs)
  • Advanced serialized parts management
  • Advanced effectivity management
  • As-built / as-maintained configuration management
  • Advanced change management processes

"BAE SYSTEMS provides the full range of support to Australia’s Defense Force from project conception through design, build and in-service support,” said Graeme Neil, engineering support manager, at BAE SYSTEMS. “As a defense contractor, BAE SYSTEMS is required to meet and implement the appropriate military, aeronautical, naval and other statutory standards and processes which PTC has incorporated into its Windchill Aerospace & Defense Module. Accordingly, BAE SYSTEMS expects that this implementation will allow us to focus on adding value for our customers by using industry best practice embedded in our tools of trade."

With Windchill Aerospace & Defense Module and Windchill PDMLink, customers are able to take advantage of the following benefits:

  • Reduced time and effort to meet contract requirements for defense programs
  • Improved quality of execution by managing program information in the context of product lifecycle management
  • Creation of new services opportunities through management of as-built/as-maintained product configurations
  • Reduced risk of delays in program milestones, deliverables and potential payment penalties
  • Enhanced compliance with configuration management standards ANSI/EIA-649, MIL-HDBK-61A and CMII

“PTC is achieving marked success in the A&D industry worldwide, with 18 of the top 20 companies now using our solutions for product development and program lifecycle management,” said Berry Gibson, director, aerospace and defense product & market strategy, PTC. “Market-leading companies like Boeing, EADS, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon and BAE SYSTEMS have aggressively adopted our software solutions for improving their metrics around customer satisfaction, program win rates, development cycle time, program affordability, and program risk.”
