Optovia Selects Agile Advantage to Accelerate Development and Delivery of Next Generation Optical Amplifiers

Agile Advantage delivers the price, performance, and flexibility needed by small and medium enterprise customers
San Jose, CA - December 13, 2004 – Agile Software Corporation (Nasdaq: AGIL), a leading provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions, today announced that Optovia Corporation, a leader in the optical amplification systems market, has purchased Agile Advantage 2005 as its corporate PLM solution. Optovia compared several systems and chose Agile Advantage because of the richness of its features, its ability to deliver proven integrations with other enterprise systems, its ease of use and administration, and overall value. Agile Advantage 2005 is Agile’s offering for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

“Development and manufacturing of Optovia’s world-class products requires the capabilities of a proven, reliable product lifecycle management system,” said Harmeet Singh, Optovia CEO. “We compared several PLM systems that are designed to meet the needs of small enterprises such as ours. Agile Advantage proved to be the clear winner—delivering the richness of features, flexibility, and total cost of ownership that we require. It is also important to know that as we grow our business and deliver superior solutions to the market, Agile Advantage will grow with us and continue to deliver strategic value to our company.”

The accelerating demands by subscribers for bandwidth, combined with the planned entry by carriers into new markets will soon drive requirements for additional network capacity in metro-area, long-haul, and ultra-long-haul systems. Optovia’s optical amplification systems ease the financial burdens of service providers by delivering products that cost less, consume less power, have a smaller footprint, and perform better than the alternatives currently available. Founded in 2002, Optovia has achieved dramatic new price/performance levels with innovative components and sub-systems.

“Several factors led us to look for a PLM system to replace our existing legacy system, and finally to purchase Agile Advantage,” said Michael Burka, engineering manager, Optovia. “Neither our legacy system nor the other solutions that we considered had the feature richness and capabilities of Agile Advantage. We also needed a system that could provide a seamless integration to our other enterprise systems. Agile Advantage’s ease of use and low cost of maintenance were both important factors for us. In addition, our people who had prior experience with Agile thought highly of the product. The high levels of user adoption improve operational excellence and assure consistency across the organization. Finally, Agile Advantage represented the best overall value—always important to an emerging company.”

“Optovia’s leading edge products deliver high performance and high value to carrier networks. This means the company must cost-effectively manage product development and operations functions to meet strategic time to market and product cost targets,” said Bryan Stolle, Agile CEO. “SME customers like Optovia face intense pressures in these areas, and investment in a robust, feature-rich PLM system is key to their success in the marketplace. We are pleased that Optovia selected Agile Advantage to address their business processes.”
