UGS PLM Solutions Announces Availability of Enhanced Teamcenter® Repeatable Digital Validation (RDV) Solution

High-End Digital Mockup and Validation Capabilities Transform the Product Development Process
NATIONAL MANUFACTURING WEEK, CHICAGO - Februar 24, 2004 - UGS PLM Solutions, the product lifecycle management (PLM) subsidiary of EDS, today announced the availability of new Teamcenter® digital mockup and validation capabilities that take its Repeatable Digital Validation (RDV) solution to the next level.

RDV takes companies to the forefront of engineering technology by connecting designers with current product configurations through leading-edge visualization technology. UGS PLM Solutions made the announcement in conjunction with National Manufacturing Week in Chicago.

“We are embracing technology across our business to deliver the breakthrough Eclipse 500 jet," said Dr. Oliver Masefield, senior vice president of engineering for Eclipse Aviation. "We use Teamcenter RDV capabilities company-wide in a collaborative environment allowing true Concurrent Engineering across all disciplines. This has transformed the design process by allowing our designers to conduct iterations to optimize the design and keep up-to-date with current product configurations. Using these tools gives us a faster time to market and a more robust design process, while helping us meet and exceed our aggressive program goals.”

Teamcenter is a proven portfolio of configurable lifecycle domain and industry solutions, uniting product knowledge with process innovation to deliver business value throughout the product lifecycle. Teamcenter’s new RDV capabilities allow designers to dynamically test and validate designs in the context of the current product configuration or multiple configurations. This analysis takes place up-front, while the design is being created, not post-design where digital and physical prototyping typically take place to validate the product.

Transforming the Design Process
With Teamcenter, an accurate and repeatable computer model can be generated to represent a specific product configuration for design and analysis tasks, eliminating time wasted establishing context and ensuring that the appropriate configurations of the product are evaluated for achieving design objectives. Customers avoid production issues and time lost designing for obsolete configurations of the product, which produces significant savings in terms of costs and cycle times.
Enhanced features in the latest release of RDV include the ability to store the design context and its recipe, rather than just the results, so design contexts can be shared with other users and applications. This allows designers to update the context with the most current data, reducing time and errors re-creating the appropriate context for design work or communicating issues.
