Dassault Systèmes Welcomes WALTER Informationssysteme to its Software Community Program

Tool Assembly Builder™ product and Walter TDM systems will provide tooling resource management within V5 PLM manufacturing solutions
Paris, France, and Tübingen, Germany – November 3, 2003 -Dassault Systèmes (Nasdaq: DASTY; Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA) and WALTER Informationssysteme GmbH (WIS) today announced the signing of an agreement under which WIS joins Dassault Systèmes Software Community Program as a CAA V5 Software Partner and will develop and sell solutions integrated with CATIA and DELMIA V5 solutions for the design and management of industrial tools.

WIS is a leading provider of Tool Data Management (TDM) systems that enable manufacturers in industries such as Aerospace, Automotive, and Machine and Plant Construction to manage and optimize their tooling resources. The availability of Tool Assembly Builder in combination with other WIS TDM products will optimize product development and significantly reduce the time and cost of simulation, programming, and machining in the CATIA V5 environment. This new V5 integrated solution brings additional value to Dassault Systèmes’ comprehensive manufacturing solutions that deliver cutting-edge tools to shop floor manufacturers.

Tool Assembly Builder will be based on Dassault Systèmes’ Component Application Architecture Version 5 (CAA V5) development platform. The first delivery in the partnership will enable manufacturers to design tooling resources including 2D profiles and 3D geometry, and manufacturing information such as the cutting part of the tool. Tooling resources will be provided within the V5 PLM integrated solution for the logical and physical management of tools, gauges and all other equipment used to machine, control and produce parts.

The creation of tooling resources, which are used for collision avoidance and simulated material removal simulation, will benefit from the unique resource data model via the V5 manufacturing hub that feeds both CATIA and DELMIA. V5 users will benefit from a huge choice of tool catalogs, offline and online content, and services that will exist natively in the V5 environment. Cumbersome transfer of DXF and bitmap graphics will be replaced by fast and effective tool selection based on real-time tool management data. The result will be reduced product design time and lower development costs.

“Thanks to the tight integration between WALTER TDM and Dassault Systèmes V5 Machining Solutions, Renault will benefit highly from a single management source for cutting tools,” said Serge Passolunghi, project manager Digital Manufacturing for Powertrain Division, Renault. “Sharing the same manufacturing resources across Powertrain digital processes from Process Planning to Off Line NC Detailing down to the Shop Floor will reduce time to manufacturing and increase standardization.”

“This partnership will provide manufacturers with powerful tools based on the complementary solutions of two industry leaders,” said Jürgen Auer, general manager, WALTER

Informationssysteme. “It will combine the vast tool catalogs and TDM solutions of WIS with the cutting-edge product development capabilities of Dassault Systèmes PLM solutions. The result will be greater tool development efficiency, shorter development cycles, and reduced costs for manufacturers in all sectors.”

“This partnership is a natural extension of the successful working relationship that exists between WIS and Dassault Systèmes,” said Jean-Luc Berry, director Machining Solutions, Dassault Systèmes. “It will help companies leverage the large selection of tool catalogs in the WIS data systems within the unique V5 digital manufacturing hub.”
