EDS PLM Solutions to Support HP-UX on Itanium® 2-Based HP Workstations

EDS PLM Solutions To Become First PLM Provider Supporting Itanium 2 Platform Running Both HP-UX Operating System As Well As Previously Announced Windows XP 64-Bit Edition
PLANO, Texas - October 8, 2003 - EDS PLM Solutions today announced plans to provide its NX portfolio of computer-aided design, manufacturing and engineering analysis (CAD/CAM/CAE) solutions on Itanium 2-based HP workstations running the HP-UX operating system. This announcement further highlights EDS PLM Solutions’ status as the only PLM provider currently supporting the Itanium 2 platform.

In August, EDS PLM Solutions began shipping its Unigraphics NX 2 CAD/CAM/CAE software on Itanium 2-based HP workstations running Microsoft Windows XP 64-bit Edition Version 2003. As a result of its close working relationship with HP, in the first half of 2004, EDS PLM Solutions will add the HP Workstation zx2000 and zx6000, running HP-UX version 11i, to the list of platforms already supported by Unigraphics NX 2.

Providing Customers With Power, Scalability and Choice
“EDS PLM Solutions has always been focused on providing the solutions our customers want and need,” said Chuck Grindstaff, president, PLM Products, EDS PLM Solutions. “Our support for both HP-UX and Windows XP 64-bit Edition on Itanium 2-based HP workstations not only gives our customers the kind of choice they desire but also the unmatched power and scalability they demand. Our NX portfolio takes full advantage of these new open platform architectures, and addresses the diverse needs of our most demanding customers, including the ability to virtually showcase an entire product -- such as an automobile or aircraft -- in the computer.

“In addition, today’s announcement provides an essential migration path for our current HP-UX customers using PA-RISC based workstations and enables them to easily benefit from elevated levels of price-performance.”

Open Solutions, Strong Relationships
Establishing itself as the first in the PLM industry to support both Windows XP and HP-UX on Itanium 2-based workstations is not only consistent with EDS PLM Solutions’ position as a leading supplier of PLM solutions, but also supports the company’s “PLM Open” strategy. This strategy distinguishes EDS PLM Solutions in the PLM industry through its focus on the delivery of an open, standards-based PLM platform in conjunction with the building of key relationships with leading companies in a variety of industries. EDS PLM Solutions’ collaboration with HP contributed to its ability to be first-to-market with a leading PLM application like NX running on Itanium 2-based workstations.

“HP is excited to build upon our relationship with leading ISVs (independent software vendors) such as EDS PLM Solutions to optimize application performance on our Itanium 2-based workstations,” said Jim Zafarana, vice-president of worldwide marketing for HP’s workstation business unit. “The NX portfolio on Itanium running both HP-UX and Windows XP 64-Bit Version 2003 operating systems offers customers not only a robust solution for enterprise product development but a choice of operating systems as well.”
