EDS today announced the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) has standardized on product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services from EDS PLM Solutions.
JPL will implement both Unigraphics NX and I-deas - the two premier computer-aided design, manufacturing and engineering analysis (CAD/CAM/CAE) software products from EDS - to create an integrated solution for its total product engineering requirements. JPL also uses EDS’ Teamcenter suite of integrated PLM solutions for knowledge management, data distribution, product visualization, enterprise collaboration and project management.
The contract for software and services, terms of which were not disclosed, was finalized in the third quarter of 2002. JPL will use Unigraphics NX and I-deas to consolidate the number of CAD/CAM/CAE systems used at the Pasadena, California division.

EDS today announced product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services contracts with three leading German shipyards. Valued at $10 million, the contracts with Blohm + Voss, Nordseewerke, and Lürssen establish EDS PLM Solutions software and services as the corporate standard with three new clients and highlight the company’s leadership and momentum in global shipbuilding, one of the PLM industry’s most important segments.
The shipyards will use EDS’ Teamcenter and Unigraphics NX software solutions to manage their entire product development and manufacturing processes for naval ships and luxury yachts.
In addition, they will use Teamcenter and Unigraphics NX to develop the new Corvette-class K130 based on a new concurrent engineering concept for the shipbuilding industry. The K130 is being built for the German Navy beginning this month by a consortium of shipyards in which they are members.
