NSC Schlumberger, IBM, and Dassault Systemes (NASDAQ: DASTY) today announced the successful implementation of an IBM Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solution based on Dassault Systemes’ products, CATIA V5 and SMARTEAM. The PLM solution was deployed across NSC Schlumberger’s fiber-to-yarn division 18 months ago in order to develop new textile machines. The project, executed in three factories in France, involved the design, marketing and maintenance divisions. Schlumberger expects product development time to improve by 25%. As a result of this successful implementation, the company has decided to extend the IBM PLM solution to the other four subsidiaries of NSC Group.

EDS today announced ALSTOM’s Industrial Gas Turbines business in Lincoln, UK, has selected Teamcenter™ product lifecycle management (PLM) and visual collaboration software to support the manufacturer’s moves towards a fully integrated product lifecycle management environment. A multi-year contract for software and on-going support services was signed during the third quarter, 2002.
The Lincoln, UK, site of ALSTOM specialises in the development, manufacture and packaging of a range of industrial gas turbines for electrical power generation and mechanical drive of pumps and compressors for the oil and gas industry.
Under the terms of this new contract, EDS PLM Solutions will deliver and implement additional modules of Teamcenter, including Teamcenter Visualisation, to provide real time, web-based collaboration facilities to up to 350 engineering, manufacturing, procurement and management personnel, both within ALSTOM’s Lincoln site and at the company’s principal suppliers and partners. In addition, EDS will deliver and implement its Vis Mock-Up CAD-neutral digital mock-up and prototyping software and Vis Publish web-based publishing software.
ALSTOM in Lincoln is already a major user of EDS’ collaborative product development and manufacturing software, having standardised on the Unigraphics® software suite for the design of complete gas turbine packages, including not just the turbine itself but also the ancillary equipment required to support it on site. The company has also standardised on EDS’ Teamcenter Engineering software to facilitate the management of all related product information, as well as the product development process itself.
