between enterprises based on the product data standard
STEP AP214 and the Internet standard XML is now officially
registered at XML.ORG (www.xml.org).
XML.ORG is a portal run by OASIS (Organization for the
Advancement of Structured Information Standards). It provides
industry oriented XML schema definitions, that allow standardized
communication between companies via Internet. The PDTnet
Schema is the first XML protocol in the automotive industry
for system-neutral communication of extensive product
data. With its help, the quality of information may be
increased and product development times at collaborative
product development reduced.

today announced that its Windchill release 6.0 software
has achieved validation under the IBM ClusterProven verification
program. Achieving this verification allows Windchill
to leverage an IBM eServer pSeries clustered environment,
providing customers a higher level of availability and
scalability than is possible with a standalone server.
To earn ClusterProven validation, an application must
be capable of recovering from local hardware failures
without corrupting data. To prove that an application
is indeed ClusterProven, it must be implemented and tested
in a pSeries clustered environment. Documentation of the
application's success must then be submitted to IBM for
approval.

EDS today announced Merloni Elettrodomestici (Merloni)
has expanded its use of EDS product lifecycle management
(PLM) software to support and extend its manufacturing
enterprise by enabling employees at European manufacturing

Under the contract with EDS' PLM Solutions line of business,
terms of which were not disclosed, Merloni - a leading
European household appliance manufacturer - will deploy
